EB-1A awards examples

Awards are prizes or awards for excellence that are nationally or internationally recognized. Lesser awards can count. Not every plaque does.

What people mean by examples

A competitive national prize with published criteria and judges who are experts. A well-known international award in the field, short of a Pulitzer or an Olympic medal. A selective fellowship that is actually an award for excellence, not a paid membership.

A one-time major award, of the kind USCIS illustrates with a Pulitzer, an Oscar, or an Olympic medal, is a different path. You do not also need three criteria. Almost nobody has that. Do not rename a company award into one.

What usually fails

Internal awards, hackathon trophies limited to one employer, “top 10 percent of the team,” and certificates for attending. The exhibit officers ask for is the criteria for the prize, who selected the winners, and how wide the field was. A photo of a trophy is not that.

This is not a law firm and does not file petitions. USCIS decides each case on its own record.
