IEEE Senior Member and EB-1A membership
People search IEEE Senior Member EB-1A because the membership box is easy to claim and easy to lose. The regulation is not “are you a member of IEEE.” It is whether outstanding achievement was a condition of admission, judged by recognized experts.
What the membership box actually asks
8 C.F.R. § 204.5(h)(3)(ii): membership in associations that require outstanding achievements of their members, as judged by recognized national or international experts. Dues, years of experience, and three references are not the same test.
IEEE Senior Member versus Fellow
IEEE Senior Member is a professional grade. It usually looks at experience and references. Officers often treat that as ordinary professional membership, not outstanding achievement as a condition of admission. IEEE Fellow is closer to what this box is for, and even then you still need the selection criteria and proof you were elected under them.
Plain IEEE membership (Member grade) is a paid professional society. That does not open this box. Keep the election letter and the published criteria if you claim Senior Member or Fellow. A card in your wallet is not the exhibit.
How this site scores it
The free check treats a resume line that says Senior Member as a claim. Upload the election notice and the association’s admission rules if you want the proof score to move. One membership, even a real one, is still only one of ten boxes. Final merits looks at the whole file.
This is not a law firm and does not file petitions. USCIS decides each case on its own record.
