EB-1A for athletes
Also searched as EB1A for athletes.
Athletics is a statutory field. National-team selection, judged prizes, and major-media coverage are the usual file, not a gym job.
Who this is for
Competitive athletes with national or international results and independent press.
Evidence that usually matters
- Awards and prizes for excellence that are nationally or internationally recognized
- Published material about you in major sports media
- Membership on a national team or in a selective athletic body that requires outstanding achievement
- High remuneration vs independent athlete or sport surveys, when that is true
- A one-time major award (Olympic medal class) if you actually hold one, that is a different path than 3 of 10
What often does not hold up
- Club or campus championships treated as national awards
- Participation medals
- Coach letters with no results table or independent press
EB-1A is a self-petition. You can be in any country. The statute names five fields (sciences, arts, education, business, athletics). Meeting three criteria is only Step 1. Final merits still has to show sustained acclaim.
This is not a law firm and does not file petitions. USCIS decides each case on its own record.
